Corporal Punishment in Thai Schools
Corporal punishment has been illegal in Thai schools
since 2005 (see the law). However it remains a fairly regular occurrence in many
schools in Thailand.
This website does not concern itself with the argument over whether Corporal Punishment is right or wrong. The
aim of this website to try and educate teachers who hit kids that what they do is against the law and also to
provide parents and pupils with information about the legal recourse available to them.
The old argument that children require discipline is a misnomer in this case. If a school or a teacher has no
respect for the law it is inconceivable that pupils will have respect either.
Several of the video clips show are seemingly jocular affairs but the fact remains that the teachers concerned
had sticks, canes or paddles in the classroom. However jocular the event may be it is still illegal!
Although the law is very clear, enforcement is usually only administered if a complaint is made by a parent or
the child themselves. The options available are outlined here.
The facts are that any teacher who needs to resort to hitting children cannot control the class by other means
and is therefore a poor quality teacher and should be removed.
We will expose any teacher or school that we are made aware of (more
information) including taking private prosecution where enough evidence exists. We will also assist parents who
do not have the financial means to do likewise.
We will pay for video clips and information received from parents or pupils (see here).
